Summer is in full swing and odds are, you and your family are outside taking full advantage of it. Those hot and humid days though mean that it is even more important that you stay hydrated. Here are few tips to beat the heat:

*Keep a water bottle with you. If you are active, having this handy will help you stay more hydrated. It is smart to drink about 8-10 ounces every half hour or so when you are out.

*Enjoy fresh fruit which contains a lot of water. It will help keep you cool and replace some of your fluids.

*Don't go out dehydrated. Drink before, during and after your activities.

*Avoid the hottest part of day which is usually between 10 a.m. and 4 pm. This is also good for your skin since the strongest sun coincides with this period. Plan your activities for late afternoon.

*Wear lightweight clothes that is light in color as well. The lightweight clothes will allow air to circulate which will help cool you and the light colors will reflect the sunlight.

*Listen to your body. If you are extremely thirsty and dry mouthed or become weak or dizzy, take a break immediately. Find some shade or a cool location and rehydrate.

Summer is a fabulous season to enjoy the outdoors. By paying attention to how you are feeling and making sure you are hydrated, you and your family will be able to enjoy it to the fullest.
