Don't spend summer inside thinking about getting in shape! Take advantage of the warm weather to start exercising. There is no time like today to get moving. Here are few tips to get you started if it has been awhile. Start out slow. Rushing in and doing too much is a fast way to get injured. Warm up first and cool down afterward. Stretch at the end of your workout. Hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds to fully give your muscles a chance to stretch out. Remember not to bounce like we did in the 'olden' days. Add to your routine slowly. For instance in running, it is never wise to increase your time by more than 10%. If you walk, try adding more each week. Let your muscles and body build up slowly and you will be more likely to stay injury free. Workout with a friend. It can be more fun to have someone to excercise with. It is also provides accountability and that will help keep you going on the days you just aren't in the mood. Stay hydrated. It will help keep your energy up and flush our your system. It is even more important during the summer months when the temperature is high.
