Here are the essentials for creating a safe and comfortable campsite. You will want to be prepared so you can relax and have fun when you get there.Tent: Look for a tent that is easy to assemble if this is your first time. It will save you a lot of frustration when you set up your campsite. Sleeping situation: If sleeping on the ground isn't your cup of tea, think about packing air mattresses or cots. Also, don't forget a warm, waterproof sleeping bag. In northern parts of the US, it can get chilly at night. Cooking and Eating: Not all campsites allow open fires, so you will want to pack a cook stove. Also, pack pot and pans you will need for cooking. Plan out your menu before you pack so you don't forget anything you need. Don't forget utensils, plates and cups for eating and drinking. If you don't want to worry about cleaning, you could pack disposable ones. Tools: A camp axe is handy for cutting wood for the campfire. A multi tool can also come in handy. Don't forget a can opener and a good knife also. Safety: A first aid kit is a must to take care of cuts, bruises, bug bites and to be prepared for anything serious. Make sure you have some moleskin in your first aid kit to help with blisters if you are hiking too. If you aren't sure about the potability of the water where you are going, bring some iodine tablets to be on the safe side. You will need your bug spray and sunscreen as well. Lighting: Flashlights and lanterns are another must. Flashlights will help everyone find the way to the bathroom at night. Lanterns are great to light the campsite at night. Clothing: Plan ahead for where you will be going. Good hicking boots if you need them, a poncho for rain, and clothes that will be warm enough are important. Pack what you need and not more. You don't want to have to deal with extra unnecessary things. Don't forget the s'more makings before you go. Those are definitely an essential for camping! |
