Thanksgiving Traditions PDF Print E-mail
Just because Thanksgiving dinner is over it doesn’t mean the day has to be over too. Get the family together and try one of these fun ideas to begin a new tradition.

* Volunteer – Sign up to help serve Thanksgiving at a shelter. Your children will truly learn the value of being thankful and to help people who are in less fortunate circumstances.

* Put on a play – The kids can reenact the first Thanksgiving. It can be a wonderful opportunity to learn about the history of our holiday.

* Winter sports - if it's cold enough to have recently snowed, have a sled riding party. If you don't have a large enough hill, try a nearby park instead. Have a snowball fight or build a snowman.

* Turkey Hunt - take a stuffed turkey, or paper turkey, and hide it in the house or yard, weather permitting.  The first person to find the turkey gets to hide it the next time.  Keep playing till everyone's had a turn to hide the turkey.

* Turkey Bowling - make turkey bowling pins out of two-liter bottles.  Fill them with a little sand to weight them down and spray paint them brown. Let the kids decorate them with paint or feathers.  Set them up and then try to roll a turkey (three strikes in a row).  If you have a lot of people, you can make more than one set to keep the action going.

* Take a walk – If you still have some pretty fall leaves, talk a walk and collect some. Bring them home and make Thanksgiving leaf placemets to use next year.

* Touch football – Get everyone together for a game of football in the backyard. It will wake everyone up and burn off some of those extra calories from dinner.
