Do you call any of your friends or family members on their anniversaries to wish them happy anniversary? In regards to friends, does it depend on different factors? (i.e. if they're "couple friends" or it's just your girlfriend and her husband) What if you were in the wedding....does that make you more likely to call?

I am wondering about this because my friend called me from CA yesterday and was complaining because it was her anniversary and no one had called her -- she mentioned her MIL, BIL, her mom, her sister and she was giving me crap, too, because I hadn't called. Now, keep in mind, she's been married for 13 years now, so it's not like it's fresh in everyone's minds. ;) I didn't feel too badly about not remembering (not to mention I didn't realize yesterday was the 29th...I was thinking it was like the 25th). But I was the maid of honor in the wedding so then I started thinking, "Gosh, maybe it was tacky of me not to think of it and call to wish her happy anniversary."

Anyway, I'm not saying she's wrong but it would just never occur to me, personally, to expect my friends to call and say happy anniversary. My mom usually sends a card but that's it. If a friend, or my BIL or FIL called to say happy anniversary I'd be totally surprised. In the same vein, it never really crosses my mind to call any of my friends to say it to them. If I ran into them in person and I knew about it, sure, I'd say it.

So set me straight -- do people expect to hear from lots of friends and family members on their wedding anniversary? I'm clueless.

The only person that I expect to remember our anniversary would be Brian. I cannot even imagine getting upset if no one else remembers:dunno

Me too. I consider it a very personal thing.

Okay, that's kind of what I thought. I mean, I can totally see if you happen to talk to them that day, saying it, or if you talk to them a few days later, asking them how was it, did you get any good presents, etc. :giggle I've just never thought of it as being something people other than my hubby should go out of their way to celebrate (with the exception of if a party is being thrown, in which case I'd sure expect people to show up ;)).

online where there's a calendar and it's posted and it's not mentioned...then yeah, I'd be upset. IRL, DH and I get cards from his parents, my parents and his aunt/uncle. Other than that, my sister and friends may say something the weekend before or afterwards...but not necessarily a call on that specific day. Birthdays are more of the card/call thing in my family.

My nan sends a card (nan and grandad were v.big on the sanctity of marriage and so she likes to send a card celebrating you've endured any issues)

My mom sends a card

My sister forgets every year but then sulks if i forget her anniversary or dating or engagement or her dogs birthdays :rolleyes

I send a card to my parents, davids grandparents and littlest sil but we don't send or call anyone else as they're all either divorce or never married... could explain why my nan eagerly celebrates every anniversary I hit :giggle

The only person who remembers my anniversary is my sister - but that's just her. She even sent us a gift on our first anniversary. Other than her, I totally don't expect it from anyone - except Dave, of course.
