After my appointment on Friday, we now know why I was bleeding. The placenta is attaching onto my cesarean scar. There are three levels that it could be with accreta being the less severe. The placenta could grow into my scar a little, a mid-level or all the way through so that it's growing into other organs, like my bladder.

My doctor said this will not affect how the pregnancy progresses or the baby's development, but it will complicate delivery. Chances are my uterus will have to be removed at the time of delivery as detaching the placenta from my uterus may not be possible or easily done without risk of unstoppable bleeding.

I & DH are going to see a specialist this week and we'll see how deeply attached to my scar the placenta is at this point. Then we'll, I'm assuming, talk about our options at delivery which is many months away but it's better to be prepared and know what we're in for than to be surprised at the end.

The baby's heartbeat was in the normal range and his growth and development are on schedule. Still don't know that caused the low heartbeat but baby has recovered and is doing great at this point. I am now eight weeks so the next four weeks will still be nail biters.

:hugs I'm glad to hear that your baby is progressing well and hope the next 4 weeks go by very uneventfully.

Good luck with the specialist. I hope the placenta doesn't attach too much to the scar. keeping fingers crossed!

Glad to hear everything is still okay. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were.

My aunt had that with her 10th pregnancy! She did end up having to have a hysterectomy. I'm glad your kiddo is doing well now, though, and that you've figured out why the bleeding is happening.

:hugs

A friend of mine is experiencing this at the moment as well.
She is 27 weeks at the moment and has just seen a specialist, after first being told that she would need a hysterectomy at time of delivery.
She has to have a c-section (this is her second baby, had a c-section with first as well), but was told by the specialist that there is only a small chance she will need a hysterectomy, something like 10% which made her feel a lot better.

I hope your pregnancy continues to go well, good luck!

Thanks Sarah! I know your friend is relieved at the news she received! The specialist I went to today basically gave me better news too. He said that I am too early in the pregnancy to diagnose placenta previa much less placenta accreta. He said it looks like the placenta is laying on top of my c-section scar and not growing into it at this time. I have a follow-up with him in 8 weeks and we'll see what has developed by then. He also said that I don't need to restrict any activity and to go about like I did with my other pregnancies. Good news for me today! :thumbsup

Thanks Desirae! The specialist made it sound like it's a remote chance that it will so we're holding on to that! :)
