View Full Version : Will you vacation with extended family?
Or have you in the past?
Is your summer vacation spent travelling with any extended family? Grandparents? Aunts?
Or do you take other peoples children (cousins, nieces and nephews, kids bestfriends) along with you on your summer break?

I honestly can't think of any extended family that we would be able to vacation with!

The kids and I have done "mini-vacations", a weekend perhaps, with my mom and my sisters and the grandkids but a couple of days is about all I would be able to handle. Since all my nieces and nephews are younger than Michael, there is no way I'd take them without their parents. I have enough trouble managing my own. Mick has done one vacation with the extended family and it was crazy. We are a loud italian family and he likes his life a lot quieter than our quietest days. LOL

Nope, we generally don't. My older brother and his family go down to MB the week we do(it's the week the rates drop! :giggle), but we don't stay in the same condo...we just see each other a few times a week. I prefer it that way, as we're mostly just free to do whatever we want without having to get multiple people to agree on a plan.

Well, most of our vacations are to see family who live far away so, yes, we generally spend our vacations with family.
We do- in fact in 11 years we've only had one vacation that didn't involve my parents (and that one we went with Chase's godfather & ex-wife)
I enjoy being able to take the kids along with my parents, they aren't obsessive planners (that would drive me insane) and the kids adore being around them and also I know my mother enjoys the company, my dad pretty much ignores her for ebay all year round and so she enjoys her time with the kids and I.

Me too Beka! We take almost all our "big" vacations with my parents, and often my brothers and their families as well. It can be chaotic, and after a few days, the nerves can fray a bit ;), but we've been able to go places we wouldn't normally be able to afford to, cause my folks often kick in some $$. Plus, with a lot of adults around, we kind of spread around the kid watching so everyone gets kid time, and some much needed adult time. :thumbsup

We rent a house with my sister, her husband and daughter, and my mom and stepdad. My hag-in-law used to come, but she's opting out now, praise be.

We did once...out of the 3 vacations we've ever really done. For our 5th anniversary we went to Vegas with MIL, FIL, SIL her DH and BIL. I wouldn't mind doing something with them again...I just don't to well with FIL's GO until you drop attitude. In fact we're planning on going to WDW next spring, if we can afford it

Our main family vacation this summer is to my parents' place in Corpus Christi, Texas. My three sisters, their husands, and their kids will be there too.
We also may go to my parents' cabin for a week. They'll be there.
So.... yes. Almost always extended family involved in our vacations.

Next month we'll (B, Kara and I) be spending a week in Ohio with Brian's parents and my parents. At the same time. Should be interesting ;)

I haven't, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely for the future. My parents and I might be going to visit my brother in Alaska this summer while the boys are at their dad's, but that's about as close as it gets to traveling with extended family .
