I'm taking an online course this semester, since none of the classes I need fit my schedule. I took the class that sounded most interesting - an Introduction to African American Studies. One important thing to note about an online course: it's conducted entirely online. Which means everyone has to communicate in the written medium. It hadn't occurred to me that this would be a problem, but I hadn't remembered how many people tend to type as though they are illiterate. Combine this with statements about how Africans probably didn't want to be slaves, but perhaps had no choice, and a professor who seems to think that giving notes on the chapter that a monkey could have highlighted from the text is the extent of the contribution she need make, and you've got my class. Help me.

I took an online class over the summer, and it was totally not what I thought it would be. The teacher didn't get involved at all and (it was a nutrition class) the only thing the other students talked about was losing weight and lifting weights.

At the very least, it will be over soon. :squeeze

It sounds like the teacher is just in it for the money.

:squeeze Think of it as a way to really hone your arguments. O and for amusing (or at least amazing) anecdotes for your friends ;)

I'm sorry Kristen, but I have been giggling about that comment since you told me. But I am even more sorry that you are stuck dealing with that.

sounds like it'll be challenging (although nearly sprayed computer screen with juice at the comment on your tutor- think i had her brother for law a few years back! his only qualification was he'd been a police officer for 35 years- he'd evidentally spent those 35 years arresting people with no knowledge at all of the justice system they'd be passed onto nor the laws that made it possible for him to make those arrests)

Eeep...I guess the best that can be said is that it won't last forever. On the other hand everyone else can make you feel even more intelligent then you already are.

Seriously though, that sucks all kinds of everything. I'm sorry.

Yikes! Doesn't sound like much of a class at all! I liked the idea of using this time to hone your arguments though. ;)
