View Full Version : Anybody have experience with botox?
For medical reasons, curious folk-not cosmetic!LOL
Has anyone had a child that had botox? Did they have positive results? Was it painful?

Kierra had botox in her legs for her spastic hypertonia . It worked okay but the effects were not as long lasting as we'd hoped for. By the time she got them she had regained a response to pain and I don't remember her flinching or getting upset so they must not have bothered her too much (I would have remembered if they did!!). I remember the needle being really small. She had them done on a regular office visit with her neurosergeon.
She had a better response to phenol. However, her neurosurgeon said that phenol is more painful entering the muscle. We had her injections done while she was sedated for other things. Once for an MRI and once during a surgery. The effects lasted longer with the phenol and made more of an improvement in her tone/with her spasticity.
Thanks Emily. We are going to see a PMR dr today to have Rai evaluated for Botox. Her orthopedist is recommending it for her right hand and leg. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for telling me about the phenol. I was wondering if there were other options before surgery.

We had a patient when I worked peds that had CP and the botox shots really helped her. I can't remember how long they lasted but the mother was really happy with the results

There is a little boy in both my Ds & DD's classes (they're brothers) who both have to get botox shots. For them its quite painful as their body, while needing the shots, tries to reject it in other ways causing them to miss quite a bit of school because of fever & other aches/pains
Those poor boys! I was worried that something like that might happen with Rai but luckily it all went well and she was just a bit sore for a day or so.
