What did your parents give you to throw up in as a kid if you couldn't get to the bathroom in time? By your bed maybe for instance?

Do you give your child the same thing?

A bowl, and yes, we give the kids a bowl if they're throwing up. A plastic, easy to clean one that can be thrown away, if need be.

Dave thought I was weird when I grabbed a metal bowl this morning. His parents always gave him a trash can. My mom always gave me a metal bowl and I still remember the odd cooling soothing of the metal bowl. So I just did what had been done for me.

A trash can -- the bathroom trash can. It was always plastic so it was just right.

And KNOCK WOOD, it has only been an issue once or twice here and, yes, I do the same -- trash can. LOL

My parents always gave me a bowl and that's the same thing I give my kids. I hadn't ever made that connection before. :giggle

I never threw up as a kid and couldn't tell you what they used for my sister's. I think my parents made us sleep in the bathroom if we were sick. No really. It was quite cozy.

We bring towels into the bedroom. I think we started that because Michael sleeps with a blankie and so we used that the first vomit and brought in towels but not sure. I'd have to ask dh. I'm usually to sleep deprived to remember anything at night.

with me? Anything they could grab- i was the most throwy-uppish child on the planet (and to be honest i must be the most frequent adult vomitter i know outside of the eating disorder community anyways... it's pretty much my react to everything, shock, trauma, death in the family, migraine- you get the picture) usually a bowl though

my kids? If i am aware they are ill they get a small bucket we bought back from the seaside as i really really can't bring myself to let them throw up in something i know i'll serve salad or potatos in the next day :lmao if i don't have warning it's anything i can grab - Dyl follows after me- my dad even keeps a bucket in his car just for her (ohhh how lovely hey?)

A bowl. And i will have one for Sasha as well.

Jo, we had metal bowls for vomit in school. I still can't look at them without remembering the smell of sawdust and vomit LOL

Usually old plastic icecream tubs. Big, cheap and easy to throw out, because I can't bring myself to clean them out most of the time...and it's exactly what my parents used for us too.

Either a bowl or a small trashcan.

My boys are lucky though, they have inherited the "puke bowl" from Eric's parents. LOL Apparently, Eric's best friend had a hard night of drinking, went back to Eric's house and Eric's mom & sister had to take care of him that night. The bowl he used officially became the puke bowl. WHen my boys had the stomach flu last year, my MIL brought over the bowl and that's what we have used since. It's a plastic tupperware bowl. LOL

Oh, I love the ice cream tub idea. Good excuse to go buy ice cream as well!

We use plastic containers from old food (cool whip, ice cream, big margarine tubs) that way I can throw them out. That's what my parents used for us as well.

Dh's family used tuperware bowls. I almost threw up the first time I realised mil had her son throwing up in a bowl she served food from:makesick

We were always given wash basins from the hospital (the kind they give babies sponge baths out of). We were foster parents and had TONS of them.
**Knock on wood**Aidan's yet to be sick like that (Colin's to little to give anything.), but I'd probably grab a bucket or a big plastic bowl. We don't have wash buckets fro mthe hospital.;)

When I was little, my mom would give us a plastic trash can. I give my kids a bucket.

I was given a metal bowl when I was little. I, too, remember the cool feeling being somewhat soothing.
I give Kamryn big plastic bowls from the dollar store (then I don't care when I throw them out). She has a nervous/weak stomach and throws up *a lot* (she is never sick though - just throws up and goes on about her business). Usually she is pretty good about making it to the bathroom...unless it's the middle of the night.

we have a medium size yellow tub/bucket that we always use when we're pukey sick. We've had that since the start of the 80's and we still use it for puke.

I remember always yelling, "Mommy!" and heading straight to the bathroom. My mom would hold my hair out of my face and wipe my mouth off, give me a drink of water to rinse with, etc. It was amazing that even in the middle of the night, even if I hadn't gone to bed sick, that the tone of my voice jarred Mom out of sleep and out of bed and she knew immediately what was going on.

After the first round, :vomit she'd haul out the Barf Bucket. A regular plastic utility bucket in case I got too tired to make it to the bathroom.

Plastic buckets and the scent of Lysol (for when I missed the toliet) always remind me of being sick but cared for by Mom. :thankyou

A bucket, always a bucket and that's what I've used for Taj (and Mike:giggle) as well.
