Remember that talk of what a prayer shawl was? As soon as I learned what it was, I felt powerfully led to start one at my church.

I asked our pastor and his response was "Go with it!". I put a write up in our bulletin and have 6 women interested, 2 teens that want to learn and another 2 adults that may or may not join. Not only that, but a friend of a friend heard about what we were doing and is donating a mess of yarn to the ministry!

We're having our first meeting at my mom's house in 2 weeks and we're going to officially kick it off then. Already we have opportunities to minister outside of our church body. My dear, dear friends are moving to South Dakota to minister to a community up there (there's already an established church that they're going to be a part of) and I want to supply them with hats, scarves and mittens to take to the people there. I'd also like to provide handknit hats for the chemo patients at the local hospital. These are just some of the things that I see this ministry taking part in.

Thank you, guys, for teaching me about this. I'm very excited about what's coming! If you're of the praying type, please pray that these women will have the enthusiasm to really use this as a jumping off place for blessing other people! Thanks. ;)

This is really awesome. Brian's mom is heavily involved with the prayer shawl ministry at her church. It's such a blessing, both to the knitter and the receiver.

That is really cool Christine! You are definitely safe making hats, scarves and mittens. People up here can use them for a few months yet.

That's wonderful, Christine! I don't know if you want to get into blankets but Project Linus is a wonderful organization that takes homemade blankets of all sizes for seriously ill children in hospitals as well as those that lose their homes and possessions due to fires, tornados, etc. It's one of my favorite charities because I have a couple blankie kids at home and I know how comforting they can be to children. I think what you have planned is wonderful as well! :)
