Maia was back at the doctor's Friday for a followup after her fall, and it seems her recovery will be a little more complicated then I had imagined.

Her doctor at the hospital had said for her to see our doctor, then organise some physiotherapy. Easy, right?

Apparently not so, though. She has instead got another 3 weeks on the crutches to let the swelling come down - her knee is currently twice it's normal size, but that's an improvement on the three times bigger that it was, but that's more the anti-inflammatories then any real healing. After that, she will probably need arthroscopic surgery to go see what's happening inside the joint...but all that has to wait for the swelling to come down.

It seems that the loose ligaments that saved her from a fractured knee cap have set her up for a much longer recovery. :thumbsdown :thumbsdown :thumbsdown

Oh dear...poor Maia!(and poor you too!).

Remind me of why her ligaments are loose(if you don't mind!). Is it similar to the way pregnant women's bodies get looser and more injury prone?

Oh dear. I'm so sorry Maia has a longer road to recovery. She's such a cool kid, and this doesn't seem fair, but I guess it's not about fair. And being such a cool kid, no doubt she'll do a lot to make the recovery interesting! :hugs

Thank you all.

And to answer your question, Kristen. Low muscle tone and loose ligaments are common in people with ASD and with AD(H)D - so it's constant laxity rather than laxity that develops in response to something.
