View Full Version : Heatlh related: at what point should I start freaking out?
Thomas started throwing up on Thursday, and he's still going. He's barely eating, but he is keeping enough fluids down that he has wet diapers. We know it's a bug, because it's going around and Sean has it, too.
At what point do you take your child in for a bug like this?

Lori, I'd just call the doctor. It sounds like it's running its course, but just check and see. The wet diapers are encouraging.
Mostly, though, :squeeze to you, to Thomas, and to Sean. That sounds miserable for all involved.
I would take him in tomorrow if it hasn't slowed down or stopped yet. I'm sorry- I hope he and Sean feel better soon. I hope you can manage to keep your sanity too.
The good news is that he is hydrated. Have you been giving him pedialyte? It will help him with his electrolytes which is what I would be worried about after 4 days of vomiting. Has it been tapering off at all? If it is trending down, then you probably don't have to take him in the morning. If it hasn't slowed down at all, I would definitely call in.
:hugs

Rule of thumb is call if you have over 48 hours of vomiting. In anyone except pregnant women.

Sean's going to call while I'm at work tomorrow morning, and then if they want us to take him in, we'll take him in once I get home.
Now I'm just afraid that I'm going to get sick. I've been hoping that my hearty constitution kept me from getting a severe case of this, but now I'm starting to think it just hasn't hit me full-force yet.
Everybody seems to be doing much better this morning. I didn't end up getting sick, so I guess I can credit my hearty constitution. :giggle Thomas has been keeping liquids down, so hopefully the doctor will say we don't have to take him in and can just let this run its course. He was throwing up every hour or so the first two days, and after that just once or twice a day, so it's definitely tapering off.

Yay for hearty constitutions! Mine is weak, and has many amendments. ;) I'm so glad you're all getting better.
