View Full Version : Would you go to a concert by yourself?
I am trying to decide what to do. Billy Joel is coming in May. Dave doesn't enjoy him and has already seen him once with me to be nice. I wanted to take my dad but he won't be back from Florida until a week after the concert. I really can't think of anyone I want to invite who is local.
If I do buy 2 tickets, there are only crappy ones left. If I buy 1 ticket, I can get really good seats. Should I just go by myself and have fun?

Go by yourself and have a great time!!
I wish I lived closer - I'd LOVE to go with you. :D
That would be so much fun Christine! I woke Dave up and bugged him first thing. He is all for me going but I think he is going to agree to any plan that has him not going.:giggle I think I might do it!

Go for it!! I wish I could come up there in May. :( You love his music enough that you'll have fun and hey, if you're in a good seat, then usually the people next to you really like him also and you can at least feel comraderie. kwim? And what do you really need another person at a concert with you for -- so you're more comfy dancing in your seat? Otherwise, you're focusing on the artist, not your date.
There, that's all the rationalizations I have to go by yourself. :giggle

For a band I loved, yeah. Ooooh in fact, yes I have done this several times, which should not come as a shock to anyone who knows me :D

I won't even go to the movies by myself so I wouldn't do it:giggle
But I definitely think you should, if you're comfortable with going alone, then go have lots of fun!!

Personally, I wouldn't because I am the same as Shasta :giggle ... but if you're comfortable I think you should go!
I would go by myself and get great seats!
no i wouldn't but not because i'd feel uncomfortable going to the concert but because of the transport issues there and back, i just wouldn't feel safe using public transport that time of night on my own.

So - what did you decide? Do you have a great seat for yourself, two crappy seats to take someone along, or did you decide not to go at all?!?
I know I told you this already but: would and have, and had a better time by myself than I did when I had friends with me. :) NOTHING will stand between me and seeing Paul, not even poor friends or disinterested husbands. :haha

LOL Mary, the day anything stops you going to a Paul concert is the day hell freezes over :giggle
I would definately go on my own and have done so. And even when I go with friends, I tend to lose them anyway (I just hope they aren't doing that because I smell :Paranoid)

I wouldn't go alone. I always go to concerts with another person. If you're comfortable going alone though, then more power to ya!
:woot It is done! I just bought myself a floor seat for an extravagant amount of money. But I don't care...I am going to see BILLY JOEL!!!!!:party
Awesome, Jo!
I had a floor seat when I saw Paul in Denver (by myself) and it was pretty much the coolest night of my entire life. :D

Amen sister.
Woot!!! Enjoy yourself!
I must say I prefer going to see concerts by myself unless I can go with a fellow obsessive, and I can only go to music festivals by myself, because the splitting up and re-meeting up with people just drives me batty.
I'm with you on the festivals, too, Kate. I have way more fun going to my yearly Beatles festival by myself than I would if I went with someone. It's a four-day deal and I like being able to come and go as I please, stay as long as I want and take a break whenever I want without having to make arrangements with anyone else. Plus I don't have any friends IRL who are as obsessed as I am so it just wouldn't be as much fun being there with people to whom it didn't mean as much as it means to me!
This year will be the first year I'm going with another person and she will only be 8 weeks old so at least I don't have to check in with her every time I want to come or go. ;)

Go for it! You'll enjoy it better alone than with someone that you know doesn't enjoy it. ;)
BTW, dh is planning to go see Billy when he comes to OKC, I think it's May 1st. He'll be going by himself, too. Even if I wanted to go (I like Billy) and make a date night out of it....well, just not gonna happen with a four-week-old around. :) So he'll be taking himself up there and he'll have a grand time. He deserves the break, just like you do!
Enjoy the concert! I'd love to see Billy Joel.
I think I would go, but only if it was someone I really, really wanted to see. Since we don't get many concerts here, I'd see it as my only chance, and I'd go whether or not I could find someone.
That said, I wouldn't go to a movie by myself. I'd assume I could find someone to go another night, or rent it when it comes out on video.
