After a year of on-again, off-again knitting, I've decided to jump into the world of sweater knitting!
Last winter I got ahead of myself and ordered the wool to make Dave a sweater. The pattern I chose, while beautiful, was too complicated for me to pick up and set down again. I have a short attention span so if I'm going to work a pattern that large, it has to be able to be worked in small bits.
Then a friend wore a store-bought sweater that I can't get out of my head. Our dear Jejune is helping me figure out how to design it for myself. She recommended Knitting Without Tears by Elizabeth Zimmerman to help me construct my own design. The thought of designing a sweater on my own without having ever knit one is a little daunting, so I decided it was time to jump in and make Dave that sweater. After all, I already have the yarn (a gorgeous Cascade 220 in Jet - a charcoal color). I'm torn between the Manly Sweater in Stitch and B!tch, a book I already own or the Seamless Hybrid in the book Jejune recommended.
So I went and dove in. I bought the EZ book and now I'm STOKED! Of course, since it's Amazon, I had to get that super-saver shipping and added two other books to the order - Knitting Rules! by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and a little knitter's reference that I can tuck into my knitting bag.
I'm very excited right now! I love the style of the Manly Sweater (that style looks great on Dave, minus the arm stripes) but I love the idea of constructing my own pattern as well. Either way, I'm well on my way to being a pattern designer - woo hoo! :giggle
I told you I was a nerd!
