I have a December 19th baby- our youngest, he'll be one on wednesday and it's starting to bring home to us how very different having a baby with a birthday in the middle of the holidays is, so it made me think- any other christmas week/new years members children out there?

What are you best tactics for coping with a birthday in the middle of the christmas chaos?

Jasmine was born 5 days before Xmas.

It is a nightmare actually, a lot of people have forgotten about her Bday because everyone is so wrapped up in Xmas and she will not get as much as the boys do because most people have spent so much money on Xmas. MIL and my mum have made a special effort for her birthday but most other people have forgot I think LOL

I am giving her more presents for her Bday than I am Xmas this year and as she gets older I will probably give her an unoffical Bday a little earlier.

Reanna's birthday is December 26 and trust me, she does not let a single person forget that. She has been counting down for MONTHS. She was so excited when December 1 was here because we were officially in December. LOL

In the past I have done major birthday parties, invite the whole class, etc. We always did it a couple weeks before her actual birthday before everyone can get consumed with family time during the holidays and it has worked well. Then we would do a small family celebration on the actual day of her birthday.

This year, we are not doing a major party. She wants to go bowling on her birthday, invite a couple friends and have cake & presents at home. How simple is that????

I do however do all her birthday shopping the day of her birthday. I am a sucker for good deals and we know how those after christmas sales are! ;)

Gavin was born on the 20th. He'll be 3 this year:)

It is hard having their b-day this close to Christmas, no matter how hard we try, it seems like we still don't get him as much as we would for Taj who's birthday is in March, because it's like we have all these Christmas gifts and then birthday gifts and it's just so much together. We really try to make his birthday just as special as it would be if it was in another month though. His party will be Dec. 22nd, I thought about having it a couple weeks earlier but I wanted to have it as close to his b-day as possible with him still being young and excited about it, it's easier for him to understand this way. Plus, our families have always been good about coming to his party, even with it being so close to Christmas, we usually have just as good of a turnout as we do for Taj's parties.

He'll be getting gifts on the 22nd, then again the 24th (christmas eve) and then again on the 25th. It's like his b-day and Christmas are all strung together and I don't like that. But we try to make the best of it.

I had a friend in high school who's b-day was the same day as Gavins and she hated it being that close to Christmas.

I think the key is to make it special for your kiddo.....treat their birthday just like you would treat any of your other children's birthdays. Granted it feels like the gifts never end! But the expression on their face is priceless....she has never complained about her birthday being so close to Christmas...she just knows she gets double the gifts. LOL
