And man, that was like a two hour endeavor at least. Well worth it, though, since I now know what I have. I haven't cataloged the random skeins and leftovers, but I've written down everything I have that has a plan, and I wound a lot of the skeins that weren't already wound, and rewound messy skeins, and I made a priority list of projects.
Overall, while I know I have a lot more yarn than the average person, I don't think my stash is too huge, and most of it has a purpose. So here's the tally of upcoming projects, starting with the top seven I prioritized.
1. February baby sweater for friend's new baby: Sundara sport merino in Lemon Lime, possible accents in Rusted.
2. Fingerless garter stitch mitts for one of my best friends: Sundara sport merino in Rusted (almost done, and I'll probably finish these before the baby sweater, but oh well)
3. Team Zissou hat for Daniel: Cascade 220 in Christmas Red.
4. Gabriel's saddle shoulder Aran jacket: Knit Picks Telemark in a heathered blue.
5. A long promised cloche for a friend: Cascade 220 in beige with dark green mohair accents (recycled mohair).
6. McQueen knockoff sweater for me: Knit Picks Andean Treasure in Embers Heather. I started this last year and whipped through the front of the sweater, but it got set aside. I really want to finish it up as a birthday gift to myself.
7. Another Clementine Shawlette, this one for my mom: Colinette Jitterbug in blue and brown. Needs to be done by March.
No real order to the rest, but here's what else I have yarn for.
* 10 skeins of Rowan Scottish Tweed Chunky in Peat (brown), which I intend to use to make this Drops jacket (http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=103&d_id=1). I should actually have a fair amount left over. No idea what to do with it.
* 20 skeins of Sludge colored Rowanspun 4 ply and 9 skeins of Squirrel colored Rowanspun 4 ply for Daniel's striped raglan, which I'm already working on. It's slow, as the yarn is just above lace weight. I'm only striping through the chest, with matching stripes on the sleeves. Probably will have leftovers of the Sludge at least.
* 9 skeins of straw colored silk tweed for the skirt on the cover of Greetings from Knit Cafe. Leftovers very likely.
* 10 skeins of Rowan Cotton Glace in deep orange for a kimono top already in progress. I'm using a deep red as an accent color as well.
* 3 skeins of Knit Picks Shadow in a gold color for a bedjacket.
* 2 skeins of Elann Peruvian Baby Silk in Oxblood for a pair of Knucks for Daniel.
* 1.5 skeins of Rowan Linen Drape for a hand towel.
* 2 skeins of some red/pink/orange/brown wool for a little cardigan for Eleanor.
* 6 skeins of RYC Soft Tweed in Bramble and 3 in Twig for a convertible cardigan by Wenlan Chia. (I don't think I'll keep this, but I'm not sure who it is for.)
* Various blue and beige sport weight yarns inherited from my grandmother will be used to make a yoked Bohus-esque cardigan for my mom.
And then there are a few odds and ends with plans that can't yet be implemented, like the Koigu that's destined to be half a pair of Endpaper Mitts.
But that still leaves all of my leftovers, odds and ends, and my giant collection of Rowanspun 4 ply, which I tend to buy up when I can.
