And is it easier to do it on the web or the kits I've seen at craft stores?

I started scrapping by purchasing some papers I liked and then cutting them for picture mats. You can make your pages as simple or as complicated as you'd like and it's all good. I like to take my time and let each page be a creative thing for me - rather than trying to rush to get the pictures down. There are a lot of items you can find on ebay for pretty cheap too!

And there is so much you can do with the paper. All I used in the beginning was Paper and stickers and some stencils and I could cut letters out of the paper. shapes to put together to make different things that went with the theme of the page. Most of mine at the beginning were pretty simple but they still turned out great.

You can also check out scrapbooking magazines - either in paper or online - to get page layout ideas. It will just help you visualize a nice layout and help you cement your ideas a bit.

Amen to Christine's last post. That is, hands down, what helped me to take my scrapbooking to a much higher level. I rarely copy a page exactly, but the pages in the magazine give me ideas to go off of.

Check your library...mine has Creating Keepsakes and you can check out a bunch of back issues from the year.

I agree about the magazines. When I need inspiration for a page I turn to those. Also, I have learned a few different things about what types of adhesives to use. how to use certain tools and techniques etc. from those.

My mom has done extremely through photoalbums. Each photo has it's own typed description. Is this considered scrapbooking?

I suppose so...I don't know that there's any specific definition for scrapping. There are so many different styles.

Currently, it seems like scrapbooking includes photos, descriptions + special paper and embellishments.

Polly-given your history with pictures in a box. I would start my sorting them and just putting them in a photo album.:giggle Then if you have time, go back and start scrap booking.

You also might want to check into something like picaboo to make albums and order them. It is easier and less time consuming to do it that way.
