oral thrush in babies.

Jazz has had it since she was born on and off,she has the white tongue but she is now getting white blister looking things on her lips. They are flat and do go away with treatment for a few days.

So Beka does Loki have it on his lips like that too? if anyone else has had a child with oral thrush did they get it on their lips?

ohh hello- you're in luck- i just popped online for a couple of minutes.

yep- he has those ( was how we noticed it- dyl had had it as a toddler)

what did they give you to treat her with? if it is nystatin medicine then you can paint it onto the blisters when she takes the medicine as it works by contact.

Did they treat you too? as recurring thrush can be the result of repeat transfer- you cure her, feed her and she re-contracts it etc.

If you're bf'ing then the first thing they advise you try is letting nipples air dry after a feed as it breeds in damp, change breast pads often and clean breasts often (before & after feeds etc) with plain water. You can also use a little climitrizole cream (canestan- like for vaginal thrush) rubbed onto nipples after feeds but VERY important you completely and thoroughly wash it off before feeding her each time (as it shouldn't be ingested) you can buy it for £2.25 in tesco- it's with the atheletes foot stuff and in white and red box like normal canestan is, that should help clear it in you and stop transfer back and forth

if she's FF then obviously sterilise everything that is used to feed her after each feed- including the medicine spoon (not sure how well they hold up in electric sterilisers though so might want to watch that- i've had stuff melt in them before) dummies etc need sterilising each time she finishes with them (have one pre-done then when she has her medicine you can give her a new one after it)

also don't be affraid to go to the drs with it time and time again until they get it sorted if needs be. (and if they kiss her alot the boys & tom might need oral gel or medicine too)

hope that helps

just thought to add- if you are nursing not ff then if she keeps getting it then it's worth looking at your diet as excess sugar (refined and natural) yeast, dairy, mushrooms can all lead to being more prone to thrush yourself which in turn is passed on

Have you looked into any natural remedies? I've had spectacularly good luck w/ a 1:20 preparation of grapefruid seed extract and water. It's available in health food stores.

I have to get Abby in to get treated. Catie had it but she is 6 so i don't remember much. Abby has it on her lips & all over the inside of her mouth in these little patches. It is not bothering her but I am worried about her passing it to me since she is breast feeding.
