OK, so I'm a little obsessed with names. But anyway, if you're pregnant, do you have any names in mind? If you're not, do you have names in mind for future (or purely theoretical) kids? How did you pick the names you used?

I have a long list of names way more than kids I plan to have LOL. My fav boys names right now are Keegan or Keaton or Noah
Girls: Sherridan. Liesl, Marjorie or Anya (though I do not think Tim would go for any of them)
Tim choose Dylan's first name and his middle name. Dylan has the same Middle names as Tim
Caleb we decided and changed his name 4 or 5 times one of us kept deciding we did not really like it after all so we made a list and Caleb was the only one the same on there. Then I chose Izaac as the middle name
Isabella was a girls name for Caleb. I chose it because I wanted something Italian since she was born in Italy and I liked Izzy for a NN. Her middle name is Melinda which was my sister who passed away's first name so I chose that as way to honor her. :)

I kinda have names.
But all the names I have, dh hasn't given his stamp of approval to. :thumbsdown
I have a girl name that he has completely vetoed, but I refuse to let go of it! I'm secretly hoping he'll relent and let me use it.
As for boys names - aargh! I don't like any!!
I choose names by just keeping an ear out, reading lots of books and storing character names away for possible future use. I also scan the births column in our national newspaper, to find what names to steer clear of!

Oh and the names on my current list I get from all kinds of places. Books, tv shows or whatever. Anytime I hear something I like I make sure to write it down. Just in case there should be a 4th child somewhere down the road
When we have another baby, Sean and I are still leaning toward Grace for a girl, but we're not sure for a boy's name. We don't really have anything we love.
Thomas is really into Little Einsteins, and he's decided that, if he ever has a baby brother, he wants to name him Leo. If he has a baby sister, he thinks she should be named Rocket. LOL He's hoping that our friend Barbara will name her baby Rocket, but I really don't see that happening. ;)

:giggle Lori that is too cute. :D Dylan and Caleb wanted me to name Isabella, Tinkerbell or Wendy LOL (They were into Peter Pan at the time ;) )
LOL Lori! I actually like Leo but I am not to sure on Rocket.:giggle
All that is left on our list is Meredith. The way things are looking now though, it might have to be our next dog's name.:giggle
For Mira and Rai, we picked family names we liked. Laura was a break from that tradition but I have always loved the name and it worked with the other two. And yes...her name was inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder because I was a total fan as a child....*hanging head*
Jo, Leo has grown on me and Sean, and we like it, too. It's definitely one I'd consider, although I don't think Rocket would even make it onto my middle name list. ;)

Like Jejune, I am also somewhat obsessed with names. My children's names have complicated backgrounds, but here goes.
Sophie (full name Sophia) is named after my Aunt Sophie who died when I was 16. She was 106 and just a spectacularly cool lady. Sophie's middle name, Anneliese, is in honor of my husband's Grandma Anna. We though Sophia Anna sounded funny though, so we looked at other forms of Anne and used Anneliese in honor of Anne Frank, as it was her full name.
Sophie's Hebrew name is Zahava Ariella. Zahava is in honor of my husband's Grandpa Walter (Hebrew name Zev) who died while I was 6 months pregnant. We just liked Ariella.
Julian's name is in honor of my Great-Grandma Geri (given name Jeanette) although he was originally going to be Henry. But when he was born, he just didn't look like a Henry and we thought Julian suited much better. His middle name is Walter, both in honor of the aforementioned Grandpa Walter and also in honor of my uncle Walter who died during the second pregnancy. (We plan on one more baby, so warn any Walters you know.)
Julian's Hebrew name is Binyamin Zev. Binyamin after my Great Grandpa Ben, Jeanette's husband, and Zev after Grandpa Walter.
The next baby's name will be Eleanor Sylvia or Eleanor Charlotte if it is a girl. I love Matilda, but my husband isn't totally warmed to it. He adores Eleanor though, so that's the route we'll likely take. I haven't picked a boy name. But, as I'm not pregnant, it doesn't much matter. I strongly prefer classic names, and both history and meaning are important to me.

I sometimes wish we'd named Liam Leo. I liked both, but wrongly picked Leo as the one more likely to become trendy. Bah. Oh well. Liam has more personal meaning to me.
I have a list that is pretty long still. It changed after Daniel picked Eleanor as a name, because there are some names that just sound rotten when added to "Gabriel, Liam, Eleanor, and..."
Gabriel's name was selected before we ever met, but his middle name (Jacob) was picked when I was eight months pregnant. We had chosen James up to that point, but when I was hugely pregnant Daniel admitted that he hates the name James. We both liked Jacob a lot, and since Gabriel was a very unexpected pregnancy, we both thought that the meaning "the supplanter" was very appropos.
Liam was a name I loved a lot, and I wanted an short Irish name to honor my brother Sean without using his actual name. I thought that would be confusing. I also liked that, according at least to one (usually accurate) name book I have, Liam is a Hebrew word sometimes used as a name in Israel. Since I don't speak Hebrew, I don't know if this is true, but I liked the idea. His middle name, Benjamin, is for Benjamins Franklin and Cardozo, who are two of Daniel's heroes. Also, we liked the name a heck of a lot.
Eleanor was the name Daniel picked when we found out we were having a little girl. He's always wanted a daughter, and by then we had a list of names we both liked, so I told him to go ahead and pick from it. Nora was his favorite name, but he decided he wanted her to have a longer option to fall back on so he picked Eleanor. Her middle name, Jane, was my choice. I ran our list of middle names by my mom, since I knew she didn't like the name Eleanor, and I wanted her to like the middle name, and I crossed off all the names she disliked. In the end, my favorite left on the list was Jane, and it was selected for that reason, and also because of Janes Austen and Goodall. We liked a lot of Eleanor namesakes as well.

First of all, I love the name Brody, and have tried to use it with all my boys but Mike hates it. So if it weren't for him, I'd have a Brody;)
I feel very much done and don't plan on having anymore but if something happened and we did...
Girl - Trinity Abigail
Boy - Not too sure, we had such a hard time picking Jonah's name, but right now, at this moment, I'm going to say Asher Kane.
As for how we picked the ones we have...
Mike had Taj picked out since he was a young teen. He was really into BMX and there's a pro bmx'er named Taj. So that's where his first name came from. (No, really we just love the Taj Mahal!LOL) His middle name, Cayden, I picked, I saw it in a magazine and just really liked it.
Gavin was on a huge list of names that I gave Mike to look over, he picked two out of like 100 and they were Gavin and Jonah. After I had Gavin, he told me it was up to me, whichever one I wanted to use. Gavin just seemed to fit him and Isaiah was the only name that sounded right to me with Gavin. It was like I couldn't have Gavin without Isaiah and Mike liked it too.
Jonah....well, it was really the only name we both liked from before and we still weren't sure about it, but after he was born, it just sounded right and Mike liked Ethan the best out of my middle names list and we thought it sounded good. Oh and there is a story about how we came to like Jonah. Back when Taj was a baby, we drove about 3 hrs. away to buy a car, the guy we bought it from was named Jonah and that is the only Jonah we've ever meant. We both liked it as soon as he told us his name.

Shasta we really like the name Brody too - my neighbour (who is Scottish) just had a baby boy and called him that - and I almost swooned to hear him say "Brrroooody" in his sexy Scottish accent lol! :D

when you do pick the names you like, DON'T tell anyone. my husband picked our little girls and so i picked out our boys, name. I got my little boys name from crossing jordan, has name is garrett, i name most things after tv show. We had trouble picking names, because we had twins, and did not know if there boys or girls, we had to pick 2 girl and 2 boy names!

Sarah, that's funny!LOL I'm sure it did sound very nice!:giggle
For this baby, we have nothing set in stone yet (obviously, we have a lot of time, though).
I am hoping for a Vivian if it's a girl. Dave is only "meh" on the name. His favourite girl name is Ruby, which sounds horrible with our last name (a short, abrupt sounding name with a "B" in it). But he's totally fixated on Ruby. The other main contender is Susanna Inez, but I fear Susanna may be getting popular and I'd like to avoid the popular ones. I also love Miriam, Adele, Helena, and Naomi.
For boys, my husband's favourite is Charles. I love it, too, but again, am unsure about its popularity. I am pushing for Theodore or Augustin, which he hasn't vetoed, but doesn't love. Dave also loves Duncan and Wesley. I am 'meh' on both of them, but could be persuaded with Wesley. The middle name will be Edward, since that is Dave's middle name and his father's middle name. If I had my way, the name would be Silas Edward, but Dave has vetoed Silas from the beginning and I can't seem to get him to reconsider. ;)
:nono no more babies for me but Loki would have been either Yuna or Evan-Reid if he was a girl, and the back runners for him as a first name were Evangelus and Christian- neither of which got used.

Joni, I'm adoring those names.
Thanks! I just hope we can narrow them down. Dave's asking for a comprehensive list of names I would use so he can really get a good look at what's available. He's just very picky and I can't seem to pin down a style he likes.

We did a thing when we were having Eleanor where I made a list of all the names I even remotely liked (Daniel would never look through a name book) and we went through and marked the ones we liked a lot. Any that had both of our marks next to it made the final list. It was actually a surprisingly long of list of names we knew we both would be happy with. Once we had that list, it was a lot easier. Good luck!
That sounds like a great method that would work well for us, too!
