I find myself having to do this with Thomas all the time. As I mentioned on the "big for their age" thread, he's very verbal and articulate, and because of that I really do forget sometimes that he's not even 3. He'll be just whining at me and generally bugging me in these complete, articulate sentences, and I sometimes respond to him like he's an older child, and forget that even though he sounds like someone who is making well-reasoned statements, he's not. He's just a tiny kid who really doesn't have a whole lot of control over how he acts a lot of the time. I keep having to remind myself that he's acting like a 2-year-old because that's what he is.

Do you ever have to remind yourself that your toddler is just a toddler, when you're responding to naughty/annoying/whiny behavior?

I have in the past with the boys. Caleb especially learned things from walking to talking alot earlier so he seemed older than he really was alot of the times. There were times I had to take a step back and say "Wait he is not even 2 yet" (or whatever age he may have been) but there was a point when he could almost talk better than Dylan (they are 15 months apart) so I seemed to expect him to be able to behave the same way as Dylan.

With my oldest I did. With Tristan, it's kind of the opposite. Since he's the youngest, I have to remind myself that he isn't a baby & that he CAN do some things for himself.

I catch myself doing this alot, Lori!! Brock is so independent, most of the time, yet I tend to expect it and soemtimes I feel like his behavior and such should be so much better than what it is! I am constantly reminding myself that he is only 3.

I definately did with Kaylyn - she was articulate at a young age too.

As for Kieran and Treyce - they are so big for their age that I forget they are only toddlers. Kieran isn't even 3 yet, and gosh - Tman is JUST 18 months!!!!! In addition Treyce talks so well for only 18 months - even better than Kaylyn did at that age!!!!

So yah - sometimes I get caught up in that too........
