Whether during IVF treatment, early pregnancy or later pregnancy to prevent preterm labor(more specifically the last one, since that's what applies to me here, but I want info on the side effects in general).

We've got the med ordered, it's at the hospital, they're expecting me to come in after 2 pm today to get my first injection.

And as much as I know this is supposed to help me stay pregnant as long as possible.. I don't just take things whenever. So having a weekly injection until I'm 36 or 37 weeks is NOT sitting well with me right now. I've been reading about the side effects, and naturally am a bit worried now.

I'm freaking out actually.

btw.. I'm copying and pasting this at a couple of places, so as to get as much feedback as I can. Sorry if it's repeat info for anyone .

My sister had to do progesterone suppositories to prevent miscarriage for her 1st trimester... nothing past that though.

did she have any side effects from it?

They're wanting me to take it for at least the next 17-18 weeks and I'm kind of like.. ummm... no.. don't really want to do that LOL.
But I will if it keeps me pregnant for as long as possible(and hopefully without having to do bedrest again!).

You know me though.. I'm good at working myself up over things :D LOL

I had to take progesterone pills from about 5 or 6 weeks until 13 weeks with both Kierra and Kianna. They made me sick to my stomach and a bit sleepy (but that could have been from just being pregnant - the sleepy part, the stomach part was definitely from the pills) but I had no side effects other than that. My progesterone was low and they had me using it to prevent miscarriage. I didn't have to take them past the first trimester though so I am not help beyond that. Sorry!

I don't think she had any major side effects Heather... I'll ask her tonight though!

I'm taking progesterone supplements right now (Prometrium, 200mg daily) to prevent miscarriage. I've been on them since the + hpt and will be taking them through mid-October, which will be just about through the first trimester. They make me sleepy and dizzy, but I take them at bedtime so it doesn't matter too much.

When I was on them before we got a lot of mixed info from the pharmacist (not our usual pharmacist). Paul picked up the script and she told him it was to induce a period...when we were desperately trying to stay pregnant! A call to the dr straightened it out. The dr basically told me that it will help to support the pregnancy and can only help things.

Thanks!
I've had 2 injections thus far and will have my 3rd tomorrow at my appt.(and my 20 week u/s!!). I was nervous to get it because everyone kept saying it was comparable to getting the steroid injections.. which I remember clearly from over 3 years ago and they SUCKED!! But neither of them have hurt at all. I joked with the nurse after the first one, asking her "did you do it right?" since it didn't hurt at all LOL.. figured she had to have done something wrong. And after the 2nd one, during which That nurse asked me at least 3 times in a one minute period if I was doing ok, I've decided now that they must just be giving me the wrong stuff lol since that one didn't bother me either!

I don't know. I don't know if it's really going to do what it's supposed to, after some of what I've read about it. I hate to make determinations off of stuff I get from the internet though. But if nothing else.. my moods seem to have evened out a tid bit LOL.

I had to take progesterone vaginal suppositories in my first trimester with Gavin to prevent miscarriage. No side effects for us.
