Laura is 13 months. She can handle yogurt, yogurt smoothies, cheeses pediasure etc But if she has straight milk, she gets very gassy uncomfortable and sometimes has a bit of loose poo.

She had problems when she was younger and I would drink milk. She had and still has the same problem with soy. We found that out when she had a bit of Chinese food recently. She loved it going in but didn't love it so much coming out.

Could she still have an intolerance to the milk protein? I figure if she was lactose intolerant she would have issues with other dairy products all the way around.

It does sound like a lactose issue. I am the same. As is R (almost 14 mo). Can you get lactose-free milk where you are? I can get it at my local supermarket, but I haven't tried her with it yet as we're still happy breastfeeding.

Sorry for the double post, I can't seem to get Edit to work!:tantrum

The reason she doesn't have the same problem with yoghurt and cheese is that the lactose is partially broken down during the making of these products so they are actually quite low in lactose.

I still have to keep an eye on the amount of milk my daughter drinks. I had her drinking the Lactacid milk for a while and she said it tasted fine.

Really? I thought the milk protein was also broken down in that stuff too. I will try her on lactaid. I drink it all the time because I am lactose intolerant. I know her pediasure is lactose free and the milk protein is broken down so obviously that covers both bases.

Doesn't breast milk have lactose in it too though? That is what is confusing me. She has no problem with me.

I asked her dr when we were there for her ear infection and she said it sounded like an intolerance. She wants us to wait to try again until she is finally off antibiotics. I am just not going to stress it for the moment.

Hi. Yes, your milk has lactose but a different kind of lactose. I'm fuzzy here on the science but my understanding is that cow's milk has larger/harder to digest lactose which is why just because you have cow milk problem doesn't mean you would have say, goat milk problems or human milk problems. Cow's milk, is my understanding, is the hardest milk for humans to digest. Maybe that's why cow's have two stomachs. LOL
