:nannybooboo Thanks to your thread, I finally read up on shampoo and lack thereof, and I've realized that my thick, dry, somewhat wavy hair is a good candidate for this no shampoo regime. (I will not call it "no poo", darn it. That's creepy.) Anyway, I don't think I could stand the detox period of oiliness, though, so I remembered this morning - wait! Baby shampoo doesn't have the harsh stuff like regular shampoo! So I'm using baby shampoo and conditioner now and we'll see how it goes. I smell good, that's for sure. LOL I'll let you all know what happens.
Good luck!
And I think calling it "poo" is weird and creepy, too.

Enjoy Kristen. I am now intrigued as my very straight thick hair has been driving me nuts as of late. I'm thinking that a change in shampoo is at least in order.
Poo is one of those words that just creeps me out. Eventhough I use it on a daily basis regarding dd's nappies.

I've been taking the very-scared-of-oily-hair route so far. :giggle I've been washing two days, then taking one day off, washing two day, then taking one day off, and so on. I figure I'll do this for a couple of months and then try every other day, and then try no washing.
I'm so chicken.
It hasn't been too bad so far-I thought I'd be a horrible greaseball on the off days, but I've been very surprised at how un-greasy my hair has been.

I am lost... what was the original topic on??

Not washing your hair. ;)
I had read a book about caring for curly hair that suggested only using conditioner to wash your hair, and completely giving up shampoo. And apparently it's something that is also recommended for people with non-curly hair, as well.

Well, so far the baby shampoo routine with extra conditioner is going very well. My hair isn't so dry, and my scalp is less oily/dry than it was. My hair is getting curlier and curlier - apparently I have more wave than I thought. The only thing I don't like is that I have more body. When you already have super thick hair, more body is NOT what you need. LOL I do love how the curls look, though, much to my surprise. They're big and loose, and they poke around my neck. I'm afraid to go to no shampoo because I love, love, love the smell of the lavender baby shampoo. LOL

An update on the great hair experiment. I have not given up shampoo, but I have changed my habits. I shampoo less often, and I'm still using baby shampoo and overconditioning. My hair is responding very well. I've added a new trick as well. Before I use the baby shampoo, I rub my hair with olive oil and comb it through. VERY good results from this. My hair is so much softer, but it isn't weighed down by the oil. It takes conditioner better as well.
Here's a really bad picture of my hair as it is today. It's reaching the length where it starts to curl a bit. Excuse the dumb facial expression and lack of make up. I'm brushing my hair before it dries, but I don't blow dry or do anything else. So it's pretty much what you see here.

Huh, I thought I posted here. Your hair looks great, Kristen! I may have to give this another go. I'd gotten discourage with my gradual decreasing of shampoo usage, but maybe I can swing the baby shampoo thing.
Are you shampooing every other day?

hmm...this sounds very interesting as my hair actually turned into the same texture and shape as yours, Kristen

Wow I love it!! I also have very thick hair with natural body. I've been using Burt's Bees and shampooing every other day with conditioning on the in-between days.
What exactly are you doing? Using just baby shampoo or also using it less often than once a day?

I'm actually only shampooing about every 3 to 4 days, although when I do I go the whole nine yards with the olive oil, baby shampoo, and conditioner. I do wet my hair in between actual shampooings, though, and then I just let it dry. Some days I just wash with conditioner. I get really dry at the ends of my hair, so this is helping that a LOT.
Oh, I should add that I put the olive oil in while my hair is dry and then I get in the shower with oily hair. I get my hair thoroughly wet and then wash the oil out with the shampoo. Then I rub conditioner through and wash that out. I'm using more conditioner than I was taught to, but it seems to be working well.

Hmmmm....I might have to try this too, as I have very thick hair with natural body and wave. Your hair looks so thick and healthy, Kristen!! You are striking, do you know that??

I think I'll have to try that. My hair isn't dry or oily, but the ends do get somewhat dry and frizzy. I really like the way your hair looks in that picture!

so this morning I used a super small sized dabble of shampoo followed by conditioner and my hair feels great.
I will keep eliminating shampoo amounts and eventually go to baby shampoo or none.
Your hair looks fantastic Kristen!

your hair looks great!
I only wash Reanna's hair 1x/week, but I heavily condition it every single night. It definitely helps!
