Is the NEW YORK TIMES overreacting?

What explains the Times' choice to put the most sensationalist, negative findings on the front page?

Attacking working moms is in vogue right now, and it will get you readers. Headlines nothing that the differences between kids in day care and not in day care are statistically insignificant won't.

This study will not dissuade me from enrolling my son in Montessori school. His speech therapist says he needs the time with peers, and I agree. I think it is ridiculous I am expected to feel guilty for enrolling my son in a morning (4 hours daily) Montessori school after spending the first three years barely ever letting him out of my sight.

I think the NYT is exaggerating nuance for effect. The study found slight differences between the two groups, but the NYT is using the results as an opportunity to guilt mothers.

:giggle So true!

The media does this all the time with everything. They stretch it or omit information to pull in readers. Unfortunately ntenough people pay attention to the greater detail and therefore are left with crap.
