the UGH situation over housing i wrote about in the life's difficulties board to a huuuuge upswing yesterday...

i was sitting here with my sketchbook (seriously!!!) working out exactly how i was going to maximise the space we have (converting an under the stairs cupboard to a computer nook, splitting bedroom etc) when my phone rings and it's the man from the housing department - phoning to tell me that since i phoned and he had to tell me how low our points alottment was he couldn't get it out of his head we are 6 people in such a tiny house and yet had such a low point score so he pulled my file manually rather than on the computer data and looked through it only to realise whoever stored the data on registered TWO of my 4 kids!!!! (Loks and Chase) and in light of that he'd been back through and i have 150points, not 80 like originally, he then told me if i took a letter down confirming we recieved a tax credit (due to david being a manual worker in low income industry) we'd get an extra 10points- now the people at the very top of the list only have 200!!!!

sooooo i ran (well as fast as one can with 2 preschoolers and a stroller) to their office to hand in my letter and they are updating our file- we now stand a MUCH better chance of rehousing- he also advised me on elements to change to get housed quicker- we've now said we'll happily except a 3 bedroom (as he said only 1 4 bedroom came to rent in the whole of their portfolio last year!!!!!- our town has over 100K of residents if that gives you an idea how hard 4 bedroom rentals are to get) he also said if i say i'll take any area in the town i'll get offered alot of different properties when i hit top of the list and then i can turn down the ones i don't think we could live in (travel distance to schools & work being our deciding factor)

I just can NOT believe what an amazing turn of luck it has been!!!! The fact he actually got our paper file out and read through it himself made all the difference, if he hadn't have they'd just have added 5 points a year on as they'd have writen to me to ask if we had any changes and of course i'd have said no as i thought they had all 4 kids registered!

I am just dancing here- truly! So now it looks like it'll only be a year, 2 at the most and possibly much faster for us to get home :thumbsup

Yay Beka, That is fantastic. I hope it happens really soon for you. I can't imagine 6 people in 2 bedrooms. It's hard enough with 4.

That is great news! I agree with Lisa, it's amazing you've been able to do this for so long. We feel like we could handle one more child in our two-bedroom, but that's only because at least one of them is going to be in our bed!

Keeping my fingers crossed that this comes through for you!

thanks everyone- i am feeling significantly perkier over this (although a bit blllaaahh about other things- playground politics and all that crap... sick of being good enough to talk to at school until a more fashionable mother comes along who is willing to moan about how terrible her kids are- ugh- i have issues, i have alot of issues LOL)

That is fabulous Beka :D I'm thrilled for you and it is heartwarming to hear of a worker who actually cares about his cases. WTG to that man for actually reading through your files and really wanting to help you :)

:squeeze and can't wait to hear about when you get your new house ;)

YAY, Beka! That's fantastic news! My family used to live 7 in a 1-bedroom. However doable it is, extra space is ALWAYS fantastic! LOL WTG on that man looking into things a bit more closely... I guess the office thought you'd already sold Jude and Dylan to the gypsies!!! :rofl

I can not believe you do not have a house :( They re homed me as soon as Jack was born. It is disgusting that you are still waiting but I am very happy to hear you have an improvement :D

You do so very well living in a 2 bedroomed home. I struggle in a 3 bedroomed house so I do not know how you do it and keep sane :) I hope it happens for you really soon. You deserve it.

BTW I need to reply to you in my housing thread as yet.

Fab news!! The best part was that this guy actually took an interest in your family and decided to read your file, and do something proactive.

Yay, I hope the house comes sooner, rather than later.

well i have his (the man who called me) name so i plan on calling/writing to their head office to say what fabulous customer service i recieved as i think we're (as a society) pretty fast to complain but never bother to give positive feedback and he deserves it!

Sam - i never said i was sane ;) LOL just that i get by LOL

Jenny this time around you can smack me upside the head once i am moved if i ever think of it again!

Anika- that is just it, you can fit but ohhhhhhh will the extra space seem like heaven!

Thank you Polly, Erika, Mary and Sarah for the replies too- shall keep you all updated as and when i hear something
