I don't knit but I just heard about a charity for third world children with HIV/AIDS-you knit them a teddy bear. The patterns are $3. :thumbsup

I saw this on Knitty Gritty. I'll go and see if they have the patterns on there for free...

Polly, thanks for the info, and great timing. I've been dragging my feet on talking to my pastor about starting a charity knitting group at the church, because I can be leery about committing to things, but I was meaning to do it this week, and this inspiried me. I just sent off an email to him with a link to the project, and this sounds right up the alley of a lot of the members.

Mother Bear is great, and there are some other organizations worth mentioning. I'm currently making stuff for Afghans for Afghans (http://www.afghansforafghans.org). Project Linus gives blankets to children in the hospital (Liam got one when he was there), and you can always donate chemo caps to local hospitals.

I love this one! So far I've done 5 bears. Here's a pic (http://www.sabrinajl.com/knitting/girlbear.jpg) of the girl bear I made. I only made one. The skirt's kinda fiddly. Boy bears are so much easier.
The first bear I made came out looking more like a cat. I've gotten a bit better since then. LOL
That came out great, Sabrina! Nice work.
