Special needs and the educational system?

How have your childs special needs effected their educational placement?

Are they able to attend mainstream classes? or a SN class within a mainstream school or have their needs made them best suited to a specialist school?

How much say did you have on this or was it largely dictated by the provisions of the state?

Right now they are in mainstream: Elliot is in a mixed class,he is year one but he is in with the year receptions and a few other year ones. He has a full time assistant too.

Ross should be in year 2 but he is currently in year one.

I think they would probably both be suited in a special needs school but for their age groups there just isn't any,unless they are deaf or have down syndrome or severe autism. When they get to middle school age we hope that they can go to a school that caters for a whole range of special needs.
