12 Step or not, rape always deserves to be punished.

That is a very different picture of Beebe than was painted in another article I read. In the other article, she decided to pursue charges because she felt that he was only coming to her to feel better about himself but did not fully recognize the pain he caused. I guess some justice is better than none and given the time lapse since the crime, did I really expect more? Not really. I wish that the people who truly were behind it all could be brought to justice.

Jo, I must have read the same article you did, because it did seem in that one that he was trying to dodge admitting what he'd done by calling it 'the incident', 'I hurt you', and at one point denying he'd done anything but walk her home.

I guess it seems fair, though I too would like to see any others involved get punished as well. I'm sure Beebe has information on who those others might be, I wonder why he hasn't come forth with names.

i find it appauling that the university failed to give her more support at the time and i also find it shocking that he isn;t recieving a full sentence when he has admitted guilt- that's not just being found to be guilty by a court but actually saying he did it, an apology doesn't change the effects it has had on her life and yes, to me, it does seem as it was a selfish act by him to apologise as he did for his own benefit in his program- not for her, she was already moving on with her life and now has to learn to do that all over.

I really don't understand how a court can give such a minimal sentence - time having lapsed since a crime does not make the original crime less dangerous, nor does any kind works he has done in between, if someone murders someone but has worked in a caring profession we don't give them time off for the fact they have previously cared for elderly or dying people, they've taken a life period and are punished accordingly- the same should go for this offence.

I saw this on one of the news shows at night....Dateline or something. They devoted the entire show to it. I couldn't believe how she was treated by the University! They should be ashamed of themselves!

I have seen stories about this. I think it is awful the way the University treated her at the time.I do think he should get a full sentence but I am not surprised by the fact that he didn't. I am kind of surprised he did not use the names of the others to baragin for an even smaller sentence. But then I guess he got off pretty easily as it is. I wish he would have told who they were so that they would be punished too.
